Every "best GEO agency in London" list is written by an agency
Search for the best GEO agency in London and you will find a dozen guides, almost all of them published by agencies who put themselves at number one. Tenet ranks Tenet. Charle ranks Charle. Passion Digital ranks Passion Digital. One of them says it plainly: they could not publish a guide to the top GEO agencies without including themselves.
So here is ours, with the disclosure up front. We are Recommendable, a London GEO firm. We are on this list. We have not put ourselves first, because for most of the companies reading this we are the wrong answer, and we have said where.
The rest is organised by who each agency actually suits rather than by rank. "Best" is not a property of an agency. It is a property of the match between an agency and a business of a particular size, sector and budget. A £12,000-a-month enterprise retainer and a £1,500-a-month specialist retainer are not competing for the same buyer, and pretending otherwise is how people end up paying for the wrong thing.
SEO, AEO and GEO: what the acronyms actually mean
Three labels are now in circulation and most agency websites use them loosely.
SEO — search engine optimisation — is the original discipline: earning a ranking position in a list of search results on Google. It is not dead, and roughly half of what makes GEO work is ordinary technical SEO done properly.
AEO — answer engine optimisation — targets the single answer rather than the ranked list: featured snippets, voice assistants and Google AI Overviews. In practice most agencies offering AEO and GEO treat them as one service, which is defensible.
GEO — generative engine optimisation — is about being named and cited inside an answer generated by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot or Google AI Overviews. There is no ranking to win. There is a generated answer that names two or three providers, and you are in it or you are invisible.
The practical difference matters when you hire. Traditional SEO optimises a page so a search engine ranks it. GEO optimises an entity — your business as the model understands it — so a generative engine cites it. The technical foundations overlap heavily. The strategy, the measurement and the off-site work do not.
What a GEO agency actually does
Generative Engine Optimisation is the practice of getting your business named and cited in answers produced by ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews. The buying journey increasingly ends before anyone sees a list of ten blue links. A single answer names two or three providers. You are in it or you are invisible.
The work splits into four parts, and the honest version of a GEO pitch tells you which ones the agency is actually going to do.
Machine access. Whether the models can reach you at all. Robots.txt rules, firewall and WAF settings that silently block GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, OAI-SearchBot and Google-Extended. This is unglamorous, it is technical SEO work, and it is the single most common reason a site is absent from AI search results.
Entity coherence. Whether your business resolves to one consistent thing across the internet. One address, one phone number, one name, one described service area, matching review counts, slugs and page copy that agree with each other. Models assemble an entity from scattered signals. If those signals contradict each other, the model hedges, and a hedging model names your competitor instead.
Answer-shaped content. Pages that directly answer the questions people actually type, written so a passage can be lifted and attributed. This is not the same as ranking content, and most agencies have not changed how they write.
Third-party corroboration. Models trust what other sources say about you more than what you say about yourself. Directories, trade bodies, review platforms, digital PR, supplier and partner pages, and in some categories Reddit threads. Nobody can do this in a month, which is why GEO is a retainer discipline rather than a project.
Six things that separate a real GEO agency from a renamed SEO agency
Most London agencies added a GEO page to their site in the last eighteen months. Some rebuilt their delivery around it. The difference is not visible from the website, so use these six tests instead.
They measure per engine, not in aggregate. Visibility in ChatGPT and visibility in Gemini are different problems with different inputs. An agency reporting one blended "AI visibility score" has built a dashboard, not a method.
They can show you a baseline before they sell you anything. The audit should exist before the contract. If the first deliverable arrives after the first invoice, you are funding their discovery.
They talk about entities before they talk about content. Content volume is the SEO reflex. If nobody has asked about your Google Business Profile, your address consistency or your citation sources in the first conversation, they are selling you blog posts.
They name what they will not do. Agencies that can describe their bad-fit client have a method. Agencies that take everyone have a sales team.
They define success contractually. "Increased AI visibility" is unfalsifiable. A specific set of prompts, tracked monthly, against named competitors, is not.
Someone technical is on the call. GEO sits on crawler access, structured data and server configuration. If the first three meetings are all account managers, the technical work is being outsourced or skipped.
Best GEO agencies in London for enterprise and large brands
These are full-service performance agencies that have built GEO into an existing organic search practice. You are buying scale, process and a team that can sit alongside an in-house marketing function. Expect four- to five-figure monthly retainers and a formal onboarding.
Agency | Based | Best for | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
Found | London | Brands that want AI visibility tracked with proprietary tooling | Their Luminr platform is a genuine asset; confirm who interprets it |
London | Enterprise brands wanting a documented GEO methodology | Now part of US group Pixis.ai — ask how that changes account staffing | |
London, Nottingham and Manchester | Measurable organic growth where GEO sits inside a wider programme | GEO is one line in a broad performance offer, not the centre | |
Reading, with a London office | Specialist organic search consulting with an explicit GEO service | SEO-first consultancy; ask what has actually changed in delivery | |
Novos | London | Data-led organic growth, strong in ecommerce and DTC | Growth-stage focus; may be oversized for a small services firm |
The honest caveat for this tier: several of these are excellent SEO agencies with a GEO service layered on. That is not a criticism — the technical foundations overlap heavily, and a strong SEO team will get you most of the way. But if the pitch deck is an SEO deck with the word GEO swapped in, you are paying a premium for a rename.
Best GEO agencies in London for ecommerce and DTC brands
Product discovery is where AI answers bite first. People ask an assistant what to buy before they open a retailer's site, and the answer names three products. These agencies have built around that.
Agency | Based | Best for | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
London | Shopify-centric ecommerce brands wanting GEO, AEO and technical SEO together | Strong ecommerce specialism; less suited to service businesses | |
ClickSlice | London | Brands wanting answer engine and generative optimisation inside a revenue-led SEO campaign | Positions on ROI — ask for the AI-specific portion of the results |
London Bridge | Entity optimisation and structured content for mid-market brands | Broad service list; confirm who does the technical entity work |
For ecommerce specifically, ask any agency how they handle product feed data, review schema and third-party retailer listings. Models lean heavily on structured product data and on what review platforms say. An agency that only talks about blog content has not thought about how products get cited.
Best GEO agencies for B2B and SaaS companies
B2B buyers now use assistants for vendor shortlisting, which makes category-level citation the whole game. If an assistant lists five tools in your category and you are not among them, you never reach the evaluation stage.
Agency | Based | Best for | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
Gripped | London | B2B SaaS wanting GEO tied to pipeline rather than traffic | Ask how they attribute AI-sourced visits, which is genuinely hard |
BE VISIBLE | London | SaaS, AI and technology startups building demand from a standing start | Startup-focused; confirm capacity for a larger programme |
Team 4 | London | B2B SaaS exclusively, as a stated specialism | Narrow focus is the point — check they have worked in your category |
The specific thing to test in this tier: ask them which comparison sites, review platforms and directories the models actually cite in your category, and what their plan is for each. G2, Capterra, trade publications and Reddit threads carry disproportionate weight. An agency that has not audited those for you is optimising a website in isolation.
GEO-first specialists in London
These firms were either built around generative search from the start or rebuilt themselves around it. The trade-off is straightforward: deeper method, smaller teams, less of the surrounding marketing machinery.
Agency | Based | Best for | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
Buried | UK | Brands wanting a GEO-first approach rather than SEO with a GEO page | Verify team size against the scope you need |
Polaris | London | Visibility across generative engines as the primary product | Younger positioning — ask for engine-level reporting examples |
SUSO Digital | London | Technically complex implementations; much of their work is white-label for other agencies | Ask whether you are a direct client or being subcontracted |
Ellis Digital | Soho, London | Boutique and mid-sized brands wanting a specialist partner | Smaller team; confirm who actually runs your account |
Walthamstow, London | Dedicated GEO measurement and implementation | Newer entrant — ask for named client references |
One caution that applies across this whole tier. A GEO-first agency founded in the last two years has, by definition, no long-run results to show. That is not disqualifying — the discipline itself is about that old — but it does mean you are buying method and judgement rather than a track record. Ask to see the method.
For premium independents and local service businesses: Recommendable
This is us, so treat everything below with the scepticism it deserves and check it against the six tests above.
We work with premium independent firms where one person's recommendation has always driven the business and where that recommendation is now being made by a model instead. Private education consultancies, specialist property and compliance firms, wealth and advisory boutiques, recruitment specialists, independent hospitality and venues. Typically five to a hundred people, usually with no in-house marketing team.
The method is the one described at the top of this page, run as a monthly cycle rather than a project. Every engagement opens with a visibility audit covering crawler access, structured data and entity coherence across the web, and that audit is free and arrives before any contract. We also sell category exclusivity: one client per niche per territory, because the product we are selling is being the business a model names, and we cannot credibly sell that to two firms competing for the same answer.
Retainers start at £1,495 a month. We are a small specialist team and we say so.
Where we are the wrong choice. If you are an enterprise brand needing a full performance marketing function, pick from the first tier — we do not do paid media, brand or PR, and we will not pretend to. If you are a large ecommerce operation with a complex product catalogue, Charle or ClickSlice are better equipped. If you want GEO folded into an existing SEO retainer you already like, keep your agency and send them the six questions. And if your competitor in your niche and territory signed with us first, we will tell you we cannot take you, which is the part of exclusivity nobody mentions in the sales pitch.
What SEO and GEO cost in London
Pricing in this market is almost universally quote-based, which makes budgeting difficult. Broad ranges as of 2026:
Specialist GEO retainers: from roughly £1,500 a month. Narrow scope, small team, one discipline done properly.
Mid-market agency retainers: roughly £3,000 to £6,000 a month for SEO and GEO combined, usually with content production included.
Full-service London agency programmes: £6,000 to £15,000 a month and up, typically bundling SEO, GEO, digital PR and sometimes PPC.
One-off SEO audits: anywhere from free, as a sales tool, including ours, to £12,000 for a deep technical SEO review from a major consultancy.
London agencies generally price above the UK average. Whether the premium is worth it depends on whether you need people in the room; for most of this work, you do not.
Five things that should end the conversation
A guarantee of ChatGPT rankings. There is no ranking. There is a generated answer that varies by phrasing, by user, by session and by model version. Anyone promising a position is describing a product that does not exist.
A promise to get you into the training data. Model training runs are closed processes on multi-month cycles. What an agency can influence is retrieval — what the model finds and cites when it searches at the moment someone asks. Confusing the two is either ignorance or a lie.
Mass AI-generated content as the strategy. Publishing a hundred pages a month is the 2019 playbook with a new engine behind it. It inflates cost, risks the site's quality signals, and does nothing for entity coherence or third-party corroboration.
No audit before the contract. If they cannot tell you what is wrong before you pay, they do not yet know.
A single blended visibility score as the only reporting. Ask which engine, which prompts, which competitors. If the dashboard cannot answer that, it is decoration.
Five questions for the first call
Take these to every agency on this list, including us.
Can I see an audit of my business before I sign anything? The answer should be yes, and it should arrive within days.
Which AI engines will you report on separately, and against which named competitors? Vague answers here predict vague reporting later.
Can the models currently reach my site? A competent agency will already have checked your robots.txt and firewall rules before the call. Ask what they found.
What will you do away from my website? If everything in the plan happens on your own domain, half the discipline is missing.
Who is doing the work, and are they on this call? Find out now whether the person pitching is the person delivering.
Any agency worth hiring will answer all five without hesitating. The hesitation is the signal.
Frequently asked questions
Is GEO different from SEO, or is it a rebrand? Partly a rebrand and partly a real discipline. The technical foundations are shared: a site models cannot crawl will not be cited, and that is an SEO problem with a new consequence. What is genuinely new is optimising for a cited passage rather than a ranked page, building entity consistency across sources you do not own, and measuring visibility inside answers that change between sessions. If an agency tells you it is entirely new, they are selling. If they tell you it is nothing new, they have not looked closely.
What does GEO cost in London? Specialist retainers generally run from around £1,500 a month. Full-service agency programmes commonly sit between £3,000 and £10,000 a month, and enterprise engagements go beyond that. Most agencies quote on request, so ask early and ask what is excluded.
How long before anything changes? Technical fixes — crawler access, structured data, profile consistency — can show up in AI answers within weeks, because retrieval is live rather than periodic. Authority and corroboration take months. A reasonable expectation is visible movement on specific prompts within about three months, and a changed competitive position over six to twelve.
Do we need an agency at all? Not necessarily. If you have a capable in-house technical marketer, the first round of work is learnable and documented publicly. Agencies earn their fee on the parts that need sustained outside effort: third-party corroboration, consistent monthly execution, and knowing which of fifty possible fixes actually matters for your business.
Does any of this work for a local service business? Yes, and often faster than for national brands. Local London queries have fewer credible candidates, so entity coherence and a well-maintained Google Business Profile move the needle quickly. The constraint is usually that the business has never had anyone maintain those signals at all.
What is the difference between GEO and AEO? AEO targets direct answers in traditional search results — featured snippets, voice results, Google AI Overviews. GEO targets citation inside standalone generative engines such as ChatGPT and Perplexity. Most agencies offering AEO and GEO deliver them as one service, and for most businesses that is the right call.
Do I need a London agency if my business is elsewhere in the UK? Rarely. This work is almost entirely remote, and London agencies price above the UK average. A London agency makes sense if your market is specifically London businesses, if you want in-person strategy sessions, or if the agency has genuine depth in your sector. Otherwise judge on methodology and references, not postcode.
Should I hire an agency or a freelancer? A good freelance SEO consultant will handle technical fixes and entity work competently and cost less. Agencies earn their fee on sustained monthly execution, third-party corroboration and digital PR, and on having someone else available when your consultant takes a holiday. For businesses under about twenty people with simple websites, a freelancer is often better value.
Can I just use my existing SEO agency? Often, yes. Send them the six tests and the five questions above. If they can answer them, keep them — switching costs are real and your existing agency knows your business. If they cannot, that is the conversation to have before you go looking for a new SEO partner.
Start with the audit, not the agency
Whichever firm you end up with, the first useful step is the same: find out what the models currently say about you, and whether they can reach your site at all. Most businesses have never checked, and a meaningful share are blocking AI crawlers without knowing it.
We will run that check for you at no cost and with no obligation to talk to us afterwards. You get the findings whether or not you ever become a client.
